Why Going Green is Good for Business-workshop delivery

This weekend, Dr Oseng-Rees had the privilege of connecting with brilliant minds at the Big Ideas Wales bootcamp in Abergavenny, inspiring them to make a difference—not just for their businesses, but for the planet we all share.

“As a passionate advocate for sustainable business practices, the journey toward founding Oseng-Rees Reflection Ltd was deeply influenced by the Well-being of Future Generations Act, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. This pioneering legislation has been the cornerstone of my belief in how businesses can—and should—be a force for good, driving innovation while safeguarding the environment. Its principles, especially the five ways of working, have shaped my approach to integrating sustainability into business and life.” says Dr Oseng-Rees.

During the session, "Why Going Green is Good for Business" it was highlighted the strategic advantages of adopting sustainability and how changing our language, our thinking, and our working methods can pave the way for embracing circular economy principles in all areas of life and business. Dr Oseng-Rees shared insights into her journey—from the early inspirations that motivated her to establish Oseng-Rees Reflection Ltd, to how we have become the UK's sole producer of architectural panels made entirely from waste glass, leveraging sustainability to fuel innovation and business growth.

What struck the most this weekend was the sustainable passion in the room. These young individuals have grown up with the mantra of sustainability, but together we explored how going green isn't just for certain businesses or a fleeting trend—it’s a critical necessity for shaping our collective future. The young entrepeneurs were encouraged to seize this opportunity to create value for others—not just for our generation, but for generations to come—and make a lasting impact. The Well-being of Future Generations Act has inspired me deeply, and it’s clear that it can also spark innovation and action in the next wave of changemakers.

To anyone considering a leap into entrepreneurship let’s take a page from these young visionaries. When envisioning your business’s legacy, think beyond profits to how you can contribute to the well-being of future generations. Together, we can create a world where businesses thrive in harmony with the planet.
